Time spent outside is hugely beneficial for\nboth our mental and physical wellbeing, so we\u2019d like to continue encouraging\nthe public to utilise the green spaces around Redbridge in a responsible and\nsafe manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spring is a fantastic time to get outside and experience the\nnatural environment as our parks and gardens come alive with wildlife once\nmore; birdsong fills the air, trees burst into bud and blossom, bees and\nbutterflies awaken from their winter sleep, wildflowers carpet the woodland\nfloor, and migrant visitors like swift, wheatear, and swallow are finally\nreappearing at our shores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where we need your help! Recording wildlife is very\nimportant as knowledge on where and when animals and plants are present enables\nus identify population sizes, distribution patterns, locations of rare species,\nas well as changes both locally and nationally. This data is then analysed and\nused to help us protect and preserve biodiversity in our little corner of London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every few months we submit all our data to Greenspace Information for Greater London (GiGL), the capital\u2019s environmental records centre. Redbridge\u2019s wildlife records currently stand at just over 96,000. We\u2019d love to channel the public\u2019s energy into something really positive and set everyone the challenge of helping us reach our goal of 100,000 records! Recording and sending data to GiGL is simple, they only really need four pieces of information \u2013 who, what, where, and when! You can download their easy to use data collection spreadsheet on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gigl.org.uk\/recording-spreadsheet\/#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GiGL website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether it\u2019s counting the birds from a tenth floor flat, spotting\nwildflowers along a grassy verge, chronicling the lives of foxes in the garden,\nor spying a butterfly in a local park \u2013 we want everyone to record their&nbsp;<strong>#DailyDoseofNature<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head over to our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/visionrclnature\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Facebook Group<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;to share your sightings and see what others have spotted locally.
